I'm sure we all know by now about the departure of Raf Simons at Jil Sander. Another season, another shock. I like how the fashion industry always wait until the most unassuming moments to spring these little nuggets of news on us. naturally, today has been all things Jil Sander/Raf Simons related. You can't go to any fashion website without being hit with the waves of emotional images. there are countless pictures, quotes, or memories reflecting what a bittersweet show Jil Sander Fall 2012. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Simons and I only hope he goes on to do bigger and better things (hopefully it will include a namesake women's label as well as the continuation of his men's line...must happen please). He was a perfect fit for the Jil Sander label. I appreciate his quiet and modest approach to design, never looking for attention for himself, only to redefine minimalism with his unique and modern vision. It always takes a special kind of woman to pull of a Jil Sander look by Raf. He is also what made me interested in menswear and made me recognize the full worth of the simplicity of basic colors and shapes. Some of his work i personally think are the best and most memorable ones. He changed Jil Sander into a fashion favorite and hopefully this will continue when Jil Sander herself returns to the label.

About the show itself-
it couldn't have been a better final goodbye collection. Beautiful and perfect from the setup to the makeup to the soundtrack and of course the clothes themselves. It was so basic and delicate but also strong and innovative. So classically elegant and modern. It felt more like a spring collection, with its happier notes of renewal/rebirth undertones rather than the usual somber ones of fall.

sigh....i just want to post it all. there wasn't one element in the show that i didn't like. nothing during fashion week even matters anymore. its all jilsanderrafsimons archives for a while. i'm going to miss those beautiful campaigns and collabs with willy, clement, and benjamin. SO MANY THOUGHTS. i feel like kinga right now. UUGHHHHHHH must hold back those tears.

Dries van Noten Fall 2012, inspired by Oscar Wilde and Frank Zappa. now for anyone who's listened to Frank Zappa, this is a pretty interesting interpretation. what an ingenious combination to look for inspiration.

just noticed this. that is one cool runway. at first glance i wasn't too impressed with the collection buuuut after several looks after i think its safe for me to to say "Bravo!" once again Mr. van Noten. it's designers like him that make me excited and anxious for the next season.

I don't know how they do it, these designers. pre-fall is still rolling out along with dozens of menswear shows each day and then we've got couture coming up then the ready to wear right around the corner. phewy!

huh, just realized i've never really featured menswear on my blog, don't know why because i've quite enjoy men's fashion for quite some time. given the current nature of fashion interest menswear will only continue to grow. the essence of menswear comes down its simplicity, there's only so much you can do with it trend-wise, which probably explains why i have such a special fondness for it. it always amazes me how they can reinterpret men's basics season after season, there are so many restrictions with menswear, the fit/tailoring has to be exact for those suit jackets or trousers, so i think to design and style a men's line is pretty darn commendable though it seems like more and designers are doing one...

So onto it with some of the shows that i thought did a good job of embodying the essence of menswear, sheesh, how many have i said that word already...

i was extremely impressed with valentino's first showing. as you can see i had some trouble narrowing the looks down.

hmm i also picked out a lot of navy and black combinations, my weakness.

as for models, Clement and Benjamin still blow everyone else out of the water (Baptiste not bad either) i couldn't help myself NOT putting their images in. these guys know how to work a look and walk. i only hope there's a long and successful career in store for them.

Ahhh another year, how strange it is that we are now in the year 2012.

I'm going to try and post things besides videos, but here's one i really couldn't pass up not sharing though I don't know how delayed I am with this one:

You can think what you want about Tom Ford's design aesthetic and collections themselves, i certainly have my own opinions, you can't not agree with many of the points he brings up. I have new found respect and admiration for the man after watching this documentary (which i want to point out they did a very good job with, editing wise, breaking up and building anticipation to his presentation). It was interesting to hear him explain his thought process, particularly his work during the 90's, why he chose a private presentation for his big women's collection debut, or why he only wears suits. It was also reassuring to see this quiet confidence he has with himself, the world of fashion, and life itself. The points he made about personal style and the balance of wants and needs I find a personal relation with:

"I'm attracted in some ways to beautiful things, yet at the same time I am actually aware of, in some sense, their lack of value, and that the most important things in life are your connections to other people. So it's a bit of a struggle."

I like a lot of fashion documentaries and retrospectives but for some reason I found this one especially resonating (much to my surprise). I only hope that I can one day be happy with my work while continuing to have fun and to be mentally where Tom is would be pretty ideal.

agreed ms. wintour. i hope this is what the fashion industry aims to follow.

i wish i had the motivation to update this blog more often, simply for my own sake as i always find it interesting to see my past thought process every season.

i feel like every post i make some sort of remark about just digesting the last collections. i always have all these pictures saved believing that i will be posting on this blog, most recently all the resort collections and suddenly i realized that couture has sprung upon me. good lawdie!

quick thoughts on resort-
pretty good. i remember liking the presentation of Chloe with J. Jablonski, i thought it was an editorial at first. let's see what else Clare Keller has in store for us...
Sarah Burton continues to exceed expectations considering who her predecessor was. i wish the McQueen label would start a couture line. that would make me very happy indeed.

Now onto Couture Fall 2012 -

i usually look through couture collections 2/3 times. when i first see collections i am extremely critical and i always end thinking meh...then the second time comes where i start picking looks and examining the details. the third time i tried to narrow it down.

i feel that couture has lost some of its finesse for me. COME BACK CHRISTIAN LACROIX!! please....while the process of making of these clothes is still highly commendable, the collections seem more like ready to wear and are very marketable. i don't know how to put it into words exactly but there's less fantasy and that former avant garde aspect that i've come to expect with these collections.

Let's start with Chanel-

i don't think this is one of Unkle Karl's best Chanel Couture shows, definitely not as good as Fall 2010. It does pick up where Fall RTW 2012 left off, with that same kind of moody and mysterious feel. i am a sucker for this midnight color scheme and i really like the hair and makeup, especially with the little black veils. the sequin pattern on denisa's 2nd blue dress is pretty incredible, i can't imagine how long it took a seamstress to do. with couture, you really need to look closely at all the details to truly appreciate the workmanship that goes into each piece. i can see anna wintour excitedly (maybe not excitedly, she's anna wintour, cool as a cucumber, ALWAYS) picking pieces for her wardrobe. the break between the suits and the matching gloves i found interesting along with the light up pumps, which i'm sure will become popular for the female musicians. oh and the Tron esque backdrop. i was a little underwhelmed with the opening number/model and the closing look.

And end with Armani Prive-

what a completely different direction Mr. Armani took compared to his last couture collection! funny how so many designers are looking towards Asia for inspiration now that it proves to be the most promising market...well as with all his Prive shoes, very well tailored and structured clothes. nothing seems out of place and the collection flowed well from one look to the next. i might need to see a few looks on Cate Blanchett to be convinced, she would be the one and only person to pull off each look rightfully, bless that woman. i do wonder how the prints were made, painted and then screened? they were subtle and beautiful against the simple black materials. man, i wish there were more "making of " or behind the scene videos out there for couture.

well i hope to carry on with the rest of the couture looks!

between the dawn and dark of the night

And so another Met Ball comes and goes. this year's theme was particularly exciting. given recent events, ahem royal wedding, there couldn't be a better time to celebrate Lee McQueen's extraordinary life and work. i will always believe that he was one of the greatest designers of this generation and should he lived the world of fashion will always be refreshing and innovative. i think the core of his design aesthetic is the drama and fantasy beyond the realm of real life. he was always able to uniquely create pieces that made one look and look and create images in their heads. his clothes were true art pieces that were able to translate into an emotional effect.

video summary

i have to say that i was largely disappointed by the Met Gala this year, as excited as i was for this tribute, i don't think the attendees truly honored the great McQueen. i understand that many of his more interesting pieces were on display but there are many other looks attendees could have picked from that would be so much better than the choices they already picked. i understand that designers, celebrities, and models want to promote their own brands but given the personal theme of the ball i wish they would have put that aside for one night. the very least wear a McQueen accessory or have some McQueen influence on your outfit. i can say i was most disappointed by the hosts of the ball, especially anna wintour, with all her influence and power the least she could have done was wear a McQueen piece to her very own McQueen event.

so i want to say a big thank you to those who wore Alexander McQueen to the Met Ball. say what you want about each piece or about the wearer but i think they understood, appreciated, and respected the essence and meaning of this special event.

still think Kate Middleton's wedding dress trumps them all, apparently it was an old McQueen sketch and Sarah Burton executed it to perfection. don't know if this is true, still amazing.

i will always appreciate minimalism and simplicity, however as they say with the Met Ball "Go Big or Go Home" particularly with a McQueen tribute, give it your all and use fashion as an art form, go for the interesting and eclectic over the oh "looks nice i guess" image because that is what's memorable, which is what Lee McQueen was and always will be, memorable.

i usually approach this blog with some humor and try to make some of you chuckle once in a while in the very crazy world of fashion and i still have many thoughts on the individual outfits themselves but i have too much respect for the life and legacy of Alexander McQueen to do that or mix in with this post.

dear laughing doubters i'm laughing louder

ahhh...another season comes to an end. crazy how fast the four weeks went by. BOY did a lot happen this season. so much drama, my oh my. i think i might need a little time to digest all that happened. needless to say, there is definitely some major change coming our way in september. hopefully everything will work out for the better and people will remember that fashion week is essentially about the pieces and all the hard work to went into each show. let's not have another "scandal" overshadow what truly matters.

i am still much behind on all my shows. but it was a little hard to ignore the Louis Vuitton and Chanel show. both are such a grand productions and they're actual SHOWS that suck you into its own little world. i don't quite know how to put what i'm thinking into a coherent sentences...

i think with these two, you really have to watch the whole thing to get the actual sense of the show, it's really not just about the clothes. see for yourself if you haven't done so.

wowzers. the elevator idea was pretty cool. and the cast was pretty epic. given the number of looks, i really liked how he divided it all up into little discrete sections, each representing a different persona. just like the mix of model legends, greats, supers, regulars, up and coming (ps, look at stam just rockin it. oh and kate moss has cellulite, i feel a lot better about myself), what a coolio cast. i was wondering what if one of those doormen forgot or spaced out...bahahha a trapped model. sorry. but those were some pretty good doormen, always opening right on cue. i would freak out.

oh yeah a bit of kate moss' cigarette fell on the runway, i would probably dive in and save it to sell on ebay. i don't like smoking by the way.

ok, now onto uncle karl's show

gahhh the smoke effect with the box opening and the FREJA appearing from the shadows and then stella coming at me from the other side, and then and then...man, i just go weak for such dramatic scenes. you can definitely see the freja affect on the collection, while it still had its chanel DNA, uncle karl made it cooler, hipper, tough er, yet still classy and very chanel. the ending was almost like a chanel mafia gang war and Karl the godfather of it all. they all just come marching head to head from all directions like in west side story. if only they all broke out in a little song and dance number, that would complete my life.

please pay attention to mark 2:31 yes. that woman clearly lives in her own little ca-RAZY world.

so many videos. i'm too lazy and there are so many looks i have to post from each show. please bear with me.

ok, i have to keep telling myself i might get use to/accept all these new faces and the "new" regulars, all my favorites are slowly leaving me one by one...so sad, COME BACK. but i will pay attention to these two.

Aymeline Valade: i like her androgyny (personality wise, reminds me of freja), and i'm very keen on that interview editorial of hers. go look up more pictures. sort of dark and mysterious, i like that. plus, she skateboards. my kinda gal!

Emily Baker: i like her face and she's got a resonating presence on the runway. only time will tell!

still thinking about Zuzanna Bijoch & Sui He...

one day my friends, you will see my cute little egg head pop up from one of these shows squealing in delight like a little school girl.

i still don't know how i feel about that whole fiasco so there really is nothing much for me to say about it.

i was pretty underwhelmed by milan this season. even new york seemed to resonate more. of course i haven't reviewed everything quite yet.

now that paris is beginning, i'm really expecting some wow and some inspiration. i'm also hoping for better runway casts. fingers crossed for my favorites to return and maybe some surprise veterans.

oscars were boring. red carpet was boring. so no post about that.

i am much too behind to post runway looks, but i will try to keep up for paris. it's probably not going to work it out as i plan. so sorry.

i love freja. i really do. i think she is one of the most unique and versatile models out there. i know a lot of people don't like cole, but i've always had a soft spot for him. reminds me of some people...i never thought of putting the two together. hair, tattoos, the love, the simplicity. it's all just too much.

i have not been keeping with london fashion week. hopeful this will all change with milan & paris.

can people please stop putting out perfumes? it's so unnecessary and i didn't even think anyone bought them. expect to see julia roitfeld's on the market very soon, oh boy...

now how excited are we for this? Mcqueen Exhibit at the Met is getting closer and closer and us ordinary minions will be able to see his art pieces up close, yay!

what are all these rumors i'm hearing about pilati's departure from YSL...? am i the only one who find him and ricardo tisci incredibly appealing.

i hope that is still the case for marc's clothes these days, although there are moments when i feel otherwise...

so another new york fashion week comes to a close. it's so funny how i wait and wait for the next rodarte/proenza schouler show and they just whiz right by me. i'm already wondering what they could possibly do next. i use to think i could be a designer, it would take me forever to think up a so called collection, and let me tell you, it was laughable. to see these designers come up with new stuff and to put it all together season after season is nuts. then you have to live up to all the expectations from industry greats and meager unknowns (me). of course you gotta worry about what will sell and what will be featured. all to one day see something on any ole' person and be able to say to yourself "wow, i totally dreamed that up before anyone even thought of it." all so gosh darn commendable! and the madness of the fashion world. but enough of me rambling...onto some looks.

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2011, Part 2:

Calvin Klein just very straight forward minimal calvin. i really appreciate the simplicity of these kinds of collections sometimes. the hair & makeup was nice.

Marc Jacobs i actually like this one more so than the last one. favorite NY lineup for sure (anja, stam, bruna!) i managed to catch the finale walk during class (i'm a great student) and the first i thought to myself was i really like the setting/runway, so Mr. Jacobs, if you're reading this, your MIRRION dollar show was worth it, i took notice.

3.1 Phillip Lim some really random looks and lineup. just wasn't enough cohesion for me, a somewhat up and down ride. no to the hair and the shoes.

Proenza Schouler definitely the strongest collection from New York. from head to toe, drool. jack and lazaro managed to pull off an innovative and fascinating collection that's wearable and editorial worthy. NY designers, take note. plus every piece fit and the looks flowed from to the next so well, like swan song. go find some detail shots, it's worth it.

Reed Krakoff definitely some nice pieces here and there. i like alla's bag. have & will keep an eye on the man.

Rodarte their last collection was one the most memorable ones for me in the past couple seasons, so i might have set the bar a bit high. i really appreciate the concept behind the clothes, but there were many pieces that were either unnecessary or not well executed to strengthen the sister's vision. still a highlight from New York

Yigal Azrouel very pleasantly surprised. i found myself liking some looks a little more than i expected. i usually don't look at his stuff either, but this time, i'm really glad i did.

Preen actually found myself liking this collection a lot as well. karmen's look is pretty darn snazzy (and i'm not a sparkly person) the details were pretty amazing as well, especially the embroidery.

oh and i'm getting this for my mom.

she would really appreciate this. maybe a bit too much. and not for her to wear (LORD ESPECIALLY NOT LIKE THE MODEL) but i'm sure she would anyways...

here's J.Stam at Proenza Schouler Fall 2011. movin' on up lil lady! for she sat front row and watched, but i wish she walked instead.

and now we move onwards to Europe, i hope to see some of my favorite faces again!

like a coin that won't get tossed

i have gotten way to lazy with this blog, apologies are necessary. sorry for the month long hiatus.

ahhhh another season is upon us.
it always blows my mind how fast they come. i don't even realize the 6 months that's passed in between them (re: o.wilde). here i am, still digesting last season. the pace goes to show how crazy the fashion world is and if you can't keep up for just one thing, you are left so far behind.

just a few thoughts before i post some looks from New York Fall 2011:

-i'm always a little weary of NY fashion week, simple because there are so many jam packed shows with extremely repetitive looks. i don't mean to cast aside new york, but i find myself so much more excited for the european ones. Maybe because NYFW and its designers are relatively younger than its european counterparts, those big names have been around for awhile and have established their visions. i always feel when viewing NY, that i'll see something and immediately reference it to something from gucci, prada, or balenciaga from past seasons. NY seems to be more about selling everyday clothes rather than innovating new looks. maybe it's because these young designers need the money to set off before they can do things that might not necessarily sell or appeal to the common folk. all the collections seems to mesh together and i can't even remember them, whereas everyone sees an item from prada or celine and know exactly where it came from (those collections seem so distinct/synonymous with the brand and you always remember them). hopefully there will be more american designers to reach Marc Jacobs status, bythen i hope to be more excited for NYFW, which i will always have faith in.

-sad not to see some of my favorite veterans for NY (makes it even more boring) likes of freja, sasha, coco, anja, stam, lily (save for randomly showing up at MJ & A. Wang). there is definitely a new era of models dominating the runways with Miss. Karlie leading the pack as the new "veteran". i'm not too excited for all these new faces....

-i still don't really understand the hype around prabal or altuzarra (i must say it's a lot better this season). and i will never understand some of the people that get invited to sit front row at certain NY shows.

-i want a cupcake right now.

-some questionable outfits i see girls (so called "like omg really really interested in fashion") pick and make obnoxious comments about how amazing it is. alright, lets calm down.

okay, i tried to pick a look from each show and tried looking at them all, but that's simply not working.

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2011, Part 1:

Alexander Wang it's not bad when you look at each piece individually. the shoes were just awful.

Adam i like snuggle sweaters. just do.

Band of Outsiders there's that a.wang braid again, probably his biggest claim to fame.

BCBG meehhh...i don't like those 90's boots. actually i don't know if i even like these looks...

Bensoni nice coat, i like plaid. Cynthia Rowley i don't know why i like this, i'd make it long.

Derek Lam not bad. i don't even like jumpsuits, so don't ask me about alana's look. the dresses reminded me of Chloe and that one M.Kors pre-fall dress.

DKNY i was pleasantly surprised, i normally don't even look at the brand, but i really like the coats (esp. nimue's look).

Jason Wu i actually really like most of this collection, it's very elegant and polished. plus, the crystal detailing was a nice touch.

so as you can see, pretty wearable stuff. though i might make a few alterations here and there.
well that's just part one of week one. it takes me a long time to do each post because i am severely technologically challenged.

plus this blog is in need of a serious makeover.

oh my, i certainly hope most designers do not feel the same way. i was expecting a lot more from you Mr. Ford...

anyways, so sorry for the hiatus, i'm (or well was) trying to be a good student. i haven't been paying too much attention to the fashion world. one thing that's caught my eye is the 12 year old elle fanning, who has definitely come out of her sister's shadow. both girls are so incredibly talented and age appropriate. gives me some hope in the next generation (yeah i'm lookin at you trashy ass miley cyrus).

if she was a couple inches taller, she could definitely model, exhibit A:

her red carpet choices are also incredibly refreshing. such a lucky 12 year to be wearing such beautiful clothes and doing the clothes such justice. exhibit b:

This blog is for me to express my feelings about the happenings in the fashion world. so onto how i feel about some current news:

Tavi is starting a magazine with Jane Pratt...i'm very hesitant. had a lovely chat with just jessica the other day about miss. tavi. i think we can all agree that she is an incredibly gifted 14 year old, lord knows, if i had half the fashion knowledge at that age i would not have walked around in the many questionable outfits of my young glory. i'm happy that she's made a name for herself but then she started appearing everywhere. and like beyonce (lady can sing), despite her talents, i'm simply growing quite tired of her, another case of over-saturation.

BLAKE LIVELY IS ON ANOTHER COVER OF VOGUE (this time the special Best Dressed Edition. I KNOW). Seriously Anna, if showing my buhbies and legs all day all places gives me a spot on that list, we should all just start dressing like sluts. i am SO SICK of this girl, i don't even have words for how i feel every time i see her on a magazine cover, especially vogue. maybe i will feel differently when the girl appears on something besides gossip girl or in a award winning movie. for now, i just don't get it.

Target is partnering with William Rast for a collection, i have yet to recognize the legitimacy of Justin Timberlake's label purely based on the fact that he sang Sexyback and belonged in Nsync. and i will continue to ignore the label until i see something worthy.

Oh also, Miranda Kerr needs to COOL IT with the "I'm Pregnant" Bliss and appearing everywhere with her belly. not the only model that is or has been preggos.

Also, next year i WILL make it to the Alexander McQueen exhibition at the MET. it runs from May 4th until July 31st, who's coming with me?

instead i'll let you all enjoy these videos of Doutzen Kroes, i was a huge fan before she became an angel and sort of wish she never became one but watching this video i see her dream came true. she's come a long way. it's a great video of her a few years back. i found it very interesting to hear her thoughts and see her before she made it big (oh and look out for the cameos!)

i like how every girl thinks she is a fashion know it all. they all think they are fashionable and wear this questionable piece or pile on trend after trend. PUH-LEASE. and its funny when other girls are pleasantly surprised that i actually know what i'm talking about. for the most part i look like a bum everyday with adidas pants+tshirt+sweatshits. Oh my gawd, i mean SWEATSHIRTS (i have nubs). so it appears that i am one with no fashion knowledge. they all want to be designers, publicists, or stylists. oh girls, if only it were that easy. and do try not to look so tacky. oh one more thing, THEY ALL THINK THEY ARE MODEL MATERIAL. dear lord, just because you worked at Hollister and love gucci, it DOES not mean you are a model/fashionista, so don't call yourself that. and then they post lame horrific pictures of them modeling, and its always the "pouty i'm so sexy" face in every shot. KILLING ME. besides, most places don't hire if you're under 5'9". that's just the reality. one thing to dream big another to be plain stupid. sorry.

it has been much too long. I keep telling myself i have to update this blog and i have all these blog post ideas and pictures saved on my computer, just never have the time to post them.

it's crazy how fast a new season comes and goes. and some people are starting to wear the Spring 2011 collections already (ex. blake lively in the gorgeous lanvin that she ruined w/her ridiculous posing, i love the color altercation though). take a look:

Seems like every time American vogue puts a dramatic de la renta red dress (sorry valentino) on the cover it always comes out beautifully (remember penelope cruz in de la renta?)

this anne hathaway cover is no exception along with the spread. the photography, the styling, the dresses, the scene, everything was flawless. and i usually don't like celeb fashion spreads.

So there was a picture hitting the internet about the Lanvin H&M collab and it looks pretty promising but i'm sure, as with every other collaboration, i will miss out because i simply cannot stand in line a crazy person for hours. i will only keep on dreaming...

just a few notes until i find more time to write some legitimate posts.

-TRYING to keep up with Spring 2011 fashion shows, mostly through with New York and hoping to move onto Europe. So far, its been decent, very wearable collections.

-What I think so far (based on what i've seen):

Rodarte by far sticks out, beautiful collection all around.
lovin the vibe at Anna Sui (i'm a big fan of the flowy hippie look).
cool separate pieces at A.wang.
the bangs at preen were stupid.
the model selection at burberry was weak (few noteworthy faces), i felt uncomfortable watching, it also did no live up to last season for me.
nina porter has a HORRIBLE walk. she fell twice. not a fan.

my standout model who, hopefully, we'll see more of:

miss. melissa tammerijn, gorgeous.

Wow, another year has gone and another Fashion's Night Out descends upon us, it seems to be a annual event now (good for me). Hopefully one day I can attend. I just love the pictures of the oogles of top models brought together for this event. most of them are all there if you looked hard enough during FNO 2010, The Show.

wow, so the genius that is Alexander McQueen passed away today, apparently from suicide. I don't want to believe it...he was definitely one of my, if not, my favorite designer. His shows were always a spectacle, with something unexpected. I think we were still in awe of his spring show with those crazy armadillo shoes. The Alexander McQueen runway are the perfect example for what A FASHION SHOW should be. The creativity, the dramatic flair, the details, you feel certain emotions after seeing his art pieces. I can truly say, he is the one designer that inspired and will continue to inspire me. McQueen made me believe in fashion despite all its hooplah these days...We've definitely lost one of the most talented and revolutionary designer of this generation. I hope he's in a happier place...may you rest in peace Lee McQueen.

hmm...interesting. i don't know if i agree or disagree.

well long time no post! i have been very out of the fashion blogosphere and i'm sorry for being so flaky with my posts. But with the holiday season here and finals, it is a little difficult to keep up at the moment. Nevertheless, i will try my hardest.

so VS show finally aired, i usually don't watch them, but this year i caught a snippet of the end. fairly interesting and extravagant. loved that anja, eniko, abbey lee, liu, and a few others, aside from the usual "angels" all took part.

onto to other things

really disappointed the lacroix deal did not go through. i am still optimistic about the house's future, someone better help out.

i applaud the concept behind the new vogue italia's twitter-esque cover, but execution wise i am not a fan. it looks really sloppy and borderline trashy.

well now this is pretty cute:

chanel and uncle karl are everywhere these days, i feel like there isn't a day that passes without hearing something about chanel. anyways in anticipation for the opening in shanghai, the great uncle karl wrote and directed this short film. it is very amusing.

yes, indeed freja and baptiste play chinese people and speak chinese. i'm chinese so this is pretty darn entertaining. i spotted cameos by edita, heidi, and tao. hope i didn't miss anyone.

UPDATE (11.19.09): apparently it has just been reported that korean model dual kim was found dead this morning in her paris apartment. the cause of death is unknown but it is speculated that it was suicide. this is incredibly sad because she had such a unique look and so much personality...

RIP dual, you will be greatly missed in the fashion world.

halfway through the week, its been fairly slow.

so lets get what been on my mind out of the way. this daily beast ranking of the world's most valuable models. i highly highly disagree with it. first off, the top two were completely predictable, but in my opinion i think kate moss should have been number one. might i add there was not one single minority model in there. there was no iman, heidi klum (the lady's basically a mogul), no cindy crawford, no linda evangelista, but instead we have miranda kerr. absolutely ridiculous, as you all know, i do not like MK, i don't see anything unique or valuable about her.

i can't believe thanksgiving is right around the corner.

so what has been on my mind lately...?
oh yes the lineup for the victoria's secret fashion show. it's always interesting to find high-fashion model take the vs catwalk. but its also sad when they leave the fashion world and work exclusively for VS, i mean you can only do so much with that (bra and undies, we get it) case in point doutzen kroes. hopefully the same thing won't happen to chanel iman. she's great but i never saw her as a vs angel. really, it just doesn't work in my opinion. so we'll see. i'm not too excited about the top 10 finalists either. i am super excited that they've finally picked an asian model! especially an accomplished and beautiful model such as liu wen. i'm so happy for her! hopefully we'll see lily, julia, abbey, and more.

pretty weird that right after my post with coco and her bf, she decided to devote a whole post to the issue...strange world when i go around snooping. there's pictures and that stupid video i tried so hard to find and failed.

wow so my attempt at three posts a week failed epically.

anyways...so the news on every blog today is that gemma ward has officially left the business. i actually think it is really sad news because she was such an amazing model at the height of her success and out of nowhere she disappeared. and yes she has gained some weight and i understand to a certain extent the fashion world's criticisms, but in my opinion, she looks completely healthy. i don't think the awful insults and commentaries on various blogs are helping her self-esteem and completely uncalled for for such a beautiful young woman.

and bravo to lara stone for her honest and relatable interview in british vogue. it was brave for her to come out and say she had a alcohol problem and actually getting help for it. and hey if a girl like lara stone can't get a good man and forgo a couple of pounds for that heavenly slice of pizza, more power to her! plus it puts the rest of us gals a little more at ease.

hello all and sorry for the lack of posts...it has been one busy busy week.

so i've been contemplating where to go beyond college and i have such high interests in so many fields (fashion of course is one) i use to think that i knew for sure what i wanted to do, but life always just throws these little hurdles at me. wherever i end up i just hope to be happy and passionate about what i do...

well much to Mounir Moufarrige's credit, the house of ungaro has been gaining much attention due to its appointment of their newest creative director. apparently she is not being paid in dollars but clothes. i don't know about this...but i think this paul smith's quote summarizes how i feel about the current wave of celebrity collaborations:

"I'm not interested in all that. Those celebrity designers … they have neither the training nor the design awareness necessary in the business, which means it must be purely about ego and money. I wouldn't bring in a celebrity to work at Paul Smith in a million years. Actually, make that a trillion." -PS

amen brother. this is why the fashion industry has been regarded as a materialistic and cold field that is often unattainable by the common people.

onto other news:
angelina jolie for a gucci movie!! Eeekkk, i hope its true because that would mucho exciting. the woman is fantastic.
also madonna is now going to appear in D&G homme ads... WHY???

speaking of D&G this is a snazzy little ad for their phone, it looks extremely impractical and insanely expensive, but this commercial does make me want one for no reason.

and this is pretty cute. cause i do like snoopy. and apparently he is very fashionable. once again i am jealous of a furry stuffed animal, crazy world we live in.

YAY THE JPG FOR TARGET RUMORS ARE TRUE!!! now i just have to make sure to get to a target on time on march 7th come 2010.

these, my dears, are snow shorts. remember those good ol days when we would go outside and go sledding, we would come in and our bums would be soaking wet? and then we would return outside to realize that ours sleds were stolen or simply flew away. well now, now you can have your sled built right in! just pop them on and you're ready to go. and coming in at only $35 a pop, i am getting myself a pair to make many more treasured memories.

wow another friday down and another fashion season down. strange we gotta wait until next year for all the madness to begin all over again. but i think this season's given us enough good clothes to fawn over until then.

well another week....time just flies.
anyways paris fashion week is just amazing, this is the true capital of fashion. and hopefully one day i will fulfill my lifelong dream of attending one these shows.

tyra on gossip girl, ridiculous. that is one dramatic lady.
and hilary duff cannot act for the life of her, it made me really uncomfortable to watch.

so, how amazing was viktor&rolf? just incredible what they did to jazz up those gowns.
i expect to see them in many many editorials.

this is pretty cool, its a collaboration between christian louboutin and moet chandon. and so the legendary designer created this glass slipper drinking glass featuring his infamous red sole pump.

i don't know how true this is, but i came across this snazzy little photo of what is suppose to be a Hermes Yacht. its interesting...i don't know what Hermes has to do with it cause i see nothing but a open face boat...i mean, i would still like to lounge there...

on a different note, i don't know if you guys have seen this:

day one is almost over.

so the beautiful life is the first show canceled. pretty expected because it bored me to death and the plot line was awful. only good ol' zac posen made it somewhat watchable.

on some blogs a bargain find is 200 off a $500 designer dud. yeah i guess if i had the money it would be a bargain. for now i am a simple student on strict budget who loves fashion. so to me and i hope some of you reading a bargain usually comes in under $50. a real find would be under $20. so i'm gonna start a new thing once a month with random picks i find that are wallet friendly.

BARGAIN TIME:

the blues remind me of the YSL, of course we would all like to own a pair but for now these $14.99 from alloy would make do. i think these studded black flats are pretty versatile and they come in at $24.90, not bad.

now these three would be a pretty cute outfit. the shoes are pretty badass at $34.00 from newport news. faux leather blazer at $39.80 from forever 21, and the dress at $24.80 also from forever 21. the whole outfit comes in under $100, and you can wear each in so many different ways. and if you want you can add the bracelet for $6.80, forever 21.

i am extremely behind with european fashion week, i'm sure you're all much more updated and have seen numerous pictures of the collections so i will not put pictures up, instead i give you these new Alexander Mcqueen ads. god knows how much i love him. man's incredible.

first exam of the semester over with, too bad i have three in a row next week...anyways just finished watching the real houswives of atlanta, yes it is my guilty pleasure...and kim's "tardy for the party" song is stuck in my head and its pretty gawd awful.

you probably all know that the legendary designer was diagnosed with hepatitis in june...so sad but it's incredible how he is still coming out with these fabulous collections. loved the new spring 2010, someone found a way to make harem pants classy and convinced me that they are actually quite chic when done the right way, bravo armani!!

So this is pretty neat: to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Wizard of Oz, charity folks is now auctioning off shoe designer's interpretation of the famous red slipper in association with swarovski. the results are amazing

hey yay finally a new look for my blog that i actually like, thanks to my friend sara for helping me make that. god know how awful i am with technology. anyways i also renamed the blog and so the old one thelifeofaneggrorr.blogspot.com is completely seperate and on other topics. this is now devoted to my love for fashion.

so i've got most of the NYC shows covered, i think this video is a good review of the madness that is nyc fashion week. can't believe they're moving it to lincoln center next year...

just saw the september issue, it was fabulous and grace coddington is hilarious and a true genius!
and it really made my think about the world of fashion...and what people think.

so there are many misconceptions about fashion, most of the people around me don't understand my passion for it. to many it is just a materialistic fantasy world. it's not. it is a world where real people work real hard to make something happen. and whether you want to admit it or not fashion will somehow affect some aspect of your life. people ask why the hell would you spend 500 dollars on a pair of shoes or 4ooo on a handbag. see in my mind they're art pieces. where some spend millions on a monet or a vintage car, i prefer to spend (well my imaginary fortune) on shoes. these pieces go up in value over time. and while many view high fashion as ridiculous and unwearable, i love it all. because once upon a time it was ridiculous for girls to wear pants. what you see as silly right now is a preview for what is to come. so don't rule anything out yet, because the next day they can be seen everywhere (much to my dismay, the misuse of leggings...) you might think: oh who cares, whatever i'll just go to forever 21 or macy's. guess the inspiration in these commercial stores. yes the runways of nyc, milan, paris, or london. yeah you can say you dont care about how you look. lets be real, EVERYONE, in some way, cares about how they look. fashion is everywhere and while you may not understand it, please do not judge. because at the core it is like every other industry/profession. creative people working hard in something they are passionate about. if it makes you happy, who cares. if you want to play magic cards, heck go for it. if you like harry potter or lotr, read those books in pride. if you love football, scream and yell all you want. yeah i love sports and i look like crap sometimes and i am passionate about human rights but i also love fashion and what it represents. yeah they don't make sense together at all even hypocritical, but aren't we all just a little hypocrtical sometimes??

I really think i am going to die from pure excitement.

the kid next to me kept laughing at me because there would be this harry potter stuff on my computer and me shrieking silently in pure delight. it got so bad i started tearing up in class and now that i think about it some more i really am going to cry.

if i must, i will sell myself to go, come spring 2010, no matter what i will find a way and when i find trek upon this glorious mecca i will spend 1 hour at each attraction, buy the week pass if i have to and turn on my full virginia mode and take pictures of EVERYTHING and BUY EVERYTHING. I die. I die, I DIE!

i am so behind with fashion week, but from what i've seen so far, Jason Wu and christian siriano collections are too cute. gawd, i love september.

well hello blog.
so strange i'm back writing in my dorm, which by the way is still infested with ants. i see their corpse in the the cracks of my laptop and i think i'm about to lose my damn mind. so i miss my wonderful friends and family back home and its gonna be another 3 months before i see them, in the meantime i will keep myself busy with schoolwork cause thats why i'm here for an education that will hopefully lead to a decent job that will allow to me buy nice SHOES. of course i am reminded daily of my brother who somehow managed to sneak his photos into my suitcases the morning of my departure. i had a very dramatic flight adventure because as usual my family has noconcept of time. anyways i arrived in MD finding my brother's face in the form of keychains, poster scrolls, stickers, and magnets all over my stuff. did i mention he is dressed as an asian cop (my mumsicles forced us to take azn glamour shots dressed as azn officers with my super hairy 8 year old cousin and then ordered a delux package of all our shots-lovely) kid's got issues.

yay for september! FASHION WEEK i die.
loving the rachel zoe project, rachel's fab, taylor's pretty fierce, and brad's so damn cute.
my guilty pleasure: gossip girl will be returning soon, chuck bass, how i've missed you so.
the september issues were pretty good this year, loved the sept harper's bazzar and vogue's editorial with all my favorite models. so according to coco's twitter, she's back in the states which is great, i wish she was in more campaigns and editorials this year. speaking of which check out this snazzy photo of her shot by the amazing steven meisel:
